See, I'm not too big on Avenue Q (it's currently playing in Pittsburgh, where I live). It's hilarious and has a pretty good plot, but the music is unbearable. I just find the music annoying, even though that's a little bit the point. I have tons of friends that rave about it, though.

*feels like a noob* What is Spring Awakening about?

Yeah same here, what is it about?

Spring Awakening is the Tony Award winning drama/tragedy/comedy rock opera about the coming of age and sexuality of teenagers in late 19th century Germany. It's also jokes.

Broadway Nerdfighters! Huzzah! I'm wearing a Sweeney Todd T-shirt right now, so I'm definetly in the right spot.
My favorites are Sweeney Todd, Company, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, Jesus Christ Superstar, Sunday in the Park with George, A Chorus Line, Assassins, Follies, Working, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, and so many others that don't come to mind at the moment.
I'm not so huge on Spring Awakening, but it's okay I guess. I don't know why, it's just not one of my favorites. Some of the songs are good though.

My friends and I saw Spring Awakening last summer and it was AMAZING! I spent all the money that I should have saved for college on a flight to New York, but it was totally worth it. I love it so much! I agree that John and Hank HAVE to see it!!!!!!!
Offline
We need to find a date next season and all of us will just kidnap them (tazers?) and drag them to see it. That would be made of awesome.

Oooh, yeah! I can't wait for Sweeny Todd! I've never been able to see the stage version but I know Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are going to combine their awesomeness once again and make it amazing!

Musical NerdFighters are extra awesome.
I saw Spring Awakening back in April, original cast, before they got all the Tonys and became impossible to get tickets to. Wasn't impressed, to tell you the truth. Too depressing for my taste. I can't name ONE truly happy song in it. There's 'My Junk', but... the lyrics? "I go up to my room, turn the stereo on... Shoot up some you, and the you is some song." ...In 19th century Germany... I dunno, I can't get into it.
I'm a sworn Rent fan, despite its imperfection. More than 3 years now, which is the longest I've had any obsession.
Other musicals made of awesome: [title of show], 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Avenue Q, Spamalot, Across the Universe, Reefer Madness, By Jeeves, Chess (my guilty pleasure), Hair, The Last Five Years, Les Misérables, Hairspray, The Rocky Horror Show, tick tick... BOOM!, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera... The list goes on.

I never really got into Spring Awakening either (have only heard a few songs though) Duncan Sheik's songwriting has always bored me to death so, yeah, not so much my thing.
And Harbek, I raise your 3 years of Rent obsession by another five ![]()

Dammit! Well, I have the excuse of living in Norway, sheltered from the musical community. It's only 3 years ago since I was introduced to the magical world of musicals. Out of the month in total I've been in New York, I've seen it 12 times. ...That's not counting the 3 times I saw Rent Remixed in London, because that doesn't count.
Total I've actually seen live: Rent (Broadway: 10, tour: 2, Remixed: 3), Avenue Q (London: 3), Hairspray (London: 1), Spelling Bee (Broadway: 2), Drowsy Chaperone (Broadway: 1), Spring Awakening (Broadway: 1), Les Miserables (Broadway: 1).
I think that's it... That's all in one year. Well, a month and a half actually spent in said cities. I'm gonna be broke SO quickly when I move to New York.

Well, you beat me with having been to NY/actually seeing the bway cast, I tend to hang out at tiny european productions
I'm somewhat intrigued by Rent Remixed (it can't possibly be worse than the last euro tour), might check it out when I'm moving to the UK next year (if it's still touring).
(aw, Ave Q in London
I so wanted to see the OLC)

I love Jersey Boys!! I saw it on broadway in may. it was awesome

Oh yes. It can always be worse than... anything. Really. Just trust me. Although the Mark is ridiculously gay and all over Roger, which is always fun. But most of the cast is not too great, and the... music.. *shudder* Audios are all over YouTube. The MySpace has pictures. And I have one video of Goodbye Love on YouTube. Which, trust me, is one of the better ones. ...But if you're in London, it's worth seeing once, if only for the crack value, and being able to say you have. And there are SOME bright parts. Really though, I've only seen the Broadway and 06/07 US tour, so my standard is... well, not horrible.

Hm, yes, the ever important slash factor
I've listened to most of the songs, and they don't seem to work on their own (or rather, they work too well on their own but I can't see them working with the other songs in the show). It just surprised me that they were allowed to do it at all, since one of the guys from the Slovak production (who should know) told me that whoever has the rights planned to keep a closer eye on productions after the EuroTour fiasco, especially when it comes to deviating from the original... and a year later we get Remixed.
